Dogpatch

Dogpatch encompasses the community between 16th Street and Cesar Chavez, and bordered by the 280 freeway on the West and the Bay on the East. Not too many years ago, it was just warehouses, manufacturing plants, train yards, and a few historical homes. The number of warehouses has dwindled over the years and now, while a few industrial buildings remain, they are populated with biotech and tech businesses as well as many artist spaces, microbreweries and smaller “maker” operations like Rickshaw Bags and Bryr Studios. Two shoreline parks are currently under construction in connection with a huge historic preservation project that will include a couple of thousand new homes, additional office, and R&D space.

The area is quite flat and walkable, and most days you’ll see residents out walking in the sun or out at Piccino’s for some great Italian food and pastries! The main transportation thoroughfare and commercial strip on Third Street is bustling with breweries and restaurants that opened in old warehouses and have a unique industrial feel to them. Do not miss the Daily Driver that bakes fresh bagels daily in its wood-fired ovens. Freeway access is easy here, and there is a Caltrain station as well.
